PRINCE ALBERT, PRINCE CONSORT (1819-61)

Letter from Prince Albert to Colonel Wylde

26 Jan 1847

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (3 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/Z/488/9

Prince Albert writes that Count Alexander surprised him with his unexpected arrival. He states that Count Alexander will return to Lisbon in a few days with instructions for Colonel Wylde from Lord Palmerston that sends him to Oporto with an exhortation to the rebels. Prince Albert mentions that he has sent Mr Dietz an 'exorbitantly rude' letter urging him to leave and that the King [of Portugal] has announced Dietz's departure. Finally Prince Albert states that Sir [Hamilton] Seymour will leave for Lisbon on the 4th.
