SIR CHARLES BEAUMONT PHIPPS (1801-66)

Letter from Colonel Charles Beaumont Phipps to Prince Albert

9 Apr 1848

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (8 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/C/56/11

Letter from Colonel Charles Beaumont Phipps to Prince Albert reporting that at the command of His Royal Highness he had visited a few different places in London to see whether any remarks were made among the general public regarding the Queen's departure from London. He states that he heard none and that any remarks that had been made were probably confined to 'the gossip of the drawing room'. He also advises that the departure of Her Majesty should not be commented on other than to state that it was at the request of the Prime Minister.
