Circular regarding an essay competition, created by D.F. Oakey, requesting essays on the advantages of the working classes observing the Sabbath day and the importance of preventing it becoming a day of work. Applications were to be by working men and a prize of £25 was to be awarded for the best essay. The circular includes the competition instructions, plus extracts from letters and essays received.
