CHARLES CLIFFORD (1819-62)

View of Lerida

1860

Albumen print | 26.5 x 41.5 cm (image) | RCIN 2700157

Photograph of the city of Lleida in Catalonia, Spain. The river Segre is in the foreground with a large stone built bridge in the background. The arch on the left side of the bridge is covered by a brick built structure with an arched entrance decorated with a pediment above it. The city itself can be seen on the right side with multi storeyed buildings occupying the escarpments. On the far right side is a fortified wall built onto the rock.

This view of Lleida originally formed part of a panorama of the city and would have been joined to two or three other views of the city.
