Photograph of the Aquaduct de les Ferreres which stands two miles outside of the city of Tarragona in Catalonia. The aquaduct stands in a rocky landscape and is double tiered with 10 arches visible. A further eight arches stand beneath the top row of arches. In the foreground stands a low stone wall.
Tarragona was fortified during the Roman Empire with significant work ordered by the brothers Gnaeus Scipio and Publius. The city has some of the best preserved Roman remains which also include an amphitheatre that was built during the 2nd century.
