Photographs of Coburg
1857Photograph album containing albumen prints | 6.3 x 8.7 cm (image) (image) | RCIN 2117892
Album containing 60 photographs of Coburg (RCINs 2117893-2117952). The photographs were commissioned by Queen Victoria to be presented to her husband Prince Albert on his birthday in August 1857. Bedford, accompanied by his wife, travelled to Coburg in June and early July to photograph the places associated with the Prince's childhood.
The album is almost identical to the one presented to Prince Albert (RCIN 2102815), the only difference being that the inscriptions below the photographs are in English rather than German. It is likely that the photographs represent one of the sets purchased by the royal couple as gifts. This particular album might have been presented to the Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoria's mother, who was born in Coburg.
