19 May 1848Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (3 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/C/56/68
Letter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria reporting that the Public Health Bill had been obstructed however that it was likely that the bill would still pass. He also writes that the meeting at Freemason's Hall the previous day had been satisfactory and praised Prince Albert's speech, commenting that it was 'exactly what it should be'. He also writes that there does not appear to be an increased desire for an extension of suffrage however if the current situation continued then they may expect further political agitation.
