Letter from Lord Cranworth to Prince Albert
4 May 1855Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (5 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/F/35/19
Lord Cranworth expresses his regret that Mr Macaulay and John Herschell declined to serve as commissioners in the University of Cambridge Bill. He writes that John Lefevre will serve in Mr Macaulay’s place and Mr Cowling in place of John Herschell. Lord Cranworth points out that dissenters may (in the new Bill) take degrees but may not go into the Senate if they do not declare themselves members of the Church of England.
