Letter from Lord Aberdeen to Prince Albert

18 Jul 1853

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (2 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/F/10/31

Letter from Lord Aberdeen to Prince Albert acknowledging receipt of Lord Grey's memorandum and describing his views as just and practicable. He also mentions Lord Shaftesbury's Bill and the favourable reception it had received in the House of Lords. However, he reports that Lord John Russell is not in favour of the bill and states that he believes that a commission, as suggested by Lord Grey, would 'lead to no practical result'.
