Draft letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell acknowledging receipt of his letters and stating that she did not mean to 'imply any imputation on the character' of Mr Vernon Smith. The Queen states that if Russell cannot find a more suitable candidate then she will not object to Mr Vernon Smith's appointment.
