POOR MAN'S FRIEND SOCIETY
Draft circular of the Poor Man's Friend Society
1 Jan - 31 Dec 1848Loose printed paper; mounted | 1 document (3 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/C/56/47-47a
An annotated draft circular of the Poor Man's Friend Society praising all classes in London for maintaining public order on 10 April, but in particular praising the 'industrius and labouring population'. It suggests that subscription lists for all classes be established in the city, administered by committees and to erect free hospitals, baths and warehouses, where required, to benefit the poor. Plus assistance to established institutions that also benefit the poor. The committee members are listed and the last page includes a note in Prince Albert's hand which reads 'I told Lord Ashley to put the Queen's and my name down for £500.
