'St Vincent de Paul'
1857-58Albumen prints? | RCIN 2160749
Photograph of a work by Paul Delaroche, created in 1823 and now in the collection of Yale University Art Gallery (Inv. no. 2017.65.1). The painting depicts Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) inside a Gothic-style building, perhaps the Notre-Dame. He stands on a raised platform under the canopy of a bishop's throne, facing the viewer. His gaze is directed to the court of Louis XIII (1601-1643) gathered on the left. His hands are extended towards the opposite side where a group of abandoned children, nurtured by female figures, is visible.
