Photograph of a work by Paul Delaroche, created in 1822 and now in the collection of the Musée Magnin, Dijon. The subject matter is inspired by a story in Giorgio Vasari's 'Life of Fra Lippo Lippi' in which the Italian artist becomes enamoured of his model whilst painting in a convent. The image depicts a young nun seated in an armchair on a platform, facing to the viewer. Filippo Lippi is kneeling beside her, gazing at her and holding her left arm in both hands. His painting of the nun is visible on the right, affixed on an easel.
