'Atelier de Paul Delaroche'
1857-58Albumen print? | RCIN 2160747
Photograph of a work by Louis François Prosper Roux (1817-1903), created around 1855. The image depicts an interior view of Paul Delaroche's studio in rue de la Tour-des-Dames, Paris. Busy with artists at work, the space is cluttered with various paintings on easels, furniture and busts. Delaroche is shown seated centrally, working on his picture Les Girondins (1856). Another work of his, La jeune martyre (c.1854), is visible in the background. In amongst his pupils present at the studio, there is Adolphe Jourdan to the far right. It has been suggested that this painting was commissioned specifically for photographic reproduction.
