c. 1859

Albumen print? | RCIN 2866335

Photograph of a half-length portrait of Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580–1661). The sitter faces three-quarters to the right and looks at the viewer, his right hand placed on his stomach. Bearded and balding, he wears a dark jerkin with broad lace-trimmed ruff and cuff.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of John Gordon Cumming Skene of Pitlurg and Dyce (1827-82), Parkhill, Aberdeenshire. It has been attributed to George Jamesone (c.1590-1644) and it is now in Robert Gordon's College, Schoolhill, Aberdeen.
