Photograph of a half-length portrait by Ary Scheffer of the artist's mother. The sitter is depicted seated in a chair, placing her hands on the chair's armrests. She faces to the right and turns her head to gaze at the viewer. A large open volume is visible on the right.
Scheffer (and his studio) continued throughout his life to produce new works of old compositions on demand. His paintings were also widely reproduced as etchings.
