Photograph of a painting by Paul Delaroche, created in 1830 and now in the collection of the Louver, Paris (Inv. no. 3834). Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Richard III, the painting depicts the final moments of the two sons of Edward IV (1442-c.1483), Edward V (1470-83) and Richard of Shrewsbury (1473-c.1483). The princes are shown in a bedchamber of the Tower of London, where they were imprisoned following their father’s death in 1483. They cling to each other as they realise somebody is entering the room through the door at the far left.
A small dog stands alarmed beside them, to the left.
