Photograph of a drawing by Paul Delaroche, drafted around 1844 in Rome. The work depicts a barefoot young woman seated on the ground, facing to the left. She extends her left hand thorough an iron grille to reach that of a figure imprisoned in a semi-basement cell behind her.
