'La Cenci (première pensée du tableau)'
1857-58Albumen print? | RCIN 2160804
Photograph of a 1851 drawing by Paul Delaroche, perhaps drafted as preparatory for his painting La Cenci. The work depicts Beatrice Cenci (1577-99) in full-length, standing on a staircase at night. She wears a hooded cloak and holds a cross in both hands. She is surrounded by women wearing similar outfits and holding candles, apart from the leading figure who holds a prayer book.
