Photograph of a painting by Paul Delaroche, completed in 1855. The work depicts three nuns holding lit candles against a brick wall at night. Facing to the left, they lead two veiled women, Beatrice Cenci (1577-99) and her mother, each holding a cross in bounds hands. Behind them stands a fourth nun who reads aloud from a prayer book held in her right hand. A man observes the scene from an arched doorway in the background, to the right.
