This letter from Charles Fox, one of the builders contracted to build the Crystal Palace, is sent to the secretary to the Executive Committee. In it he reports that he was surprised to see that much of the decoration for the Queen's accommodation had been completed. He describes that it included,
coconut matting on the floor, red cloth round the lower part of the walls, and muslin curtains to the windows.
