Letter from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria regarding his acceptance of Victoria's decision in relation to George Anson
6 Jan 1840Loose manuscript papers; mounted | 1 document (8 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/Z/296/45
Prince Albert writes to Queen Victoria in reply to her letter in which she described taking Communion at Windsor, which Albert notes was the same day which they attended Communion in Coburg. He also writes that he will leave the matter of George Anson to Victoria's 'good feeling' and remarks that as the Queen's husband he must accept the existing conditions. He says that 'As the Queen's husband I shall be in a dependent position, more dependant than any other husband, in my domestic circumstances.', but also asks that he be able to manage his private fortune. He mentions that he is enclosing a cutting from a Gotha newspaper which describes the New Year celebrations and Ernest I's birthday (not enclosed).
