Albert the father
A collection of archival material relating to the children of Prince Albert (1819-61) and Queen Victoria (1819-1901).
This selection of twelve volumes includes a series of photographs of personal notes between Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, a volume of correspondence relating to the births of Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901) and Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (1841-1910), and a series of letters written by the young princes and princesses to Prince Albert. The collection also contains papers concerning the Marriage Treaty and Dotation for the Princess Royal on her marriage in 1858 to Prince Frederick of Prussia (1831-88). In addition, there are a large number of letters written by the Princess Royal to her father from the time of her marriage up to his death in 1861, which provide an insight into the Princess Royal’s attachment and devotion to him.
Also included are a volume of correspondence written by Prince Albert to the Prince of Wales between the years 1856 and 1861. This volume reflects the relationship between father and son including the difficult weeks leading up to Prince Albert’s death after the news broke of the Prince of Wales’s affair in Ireland. In addition, the collection contains two volumes of miscellaneous archival material relating to the Prince of Wales's tour of North America in 1860 and a volume of papers regarding the Prince of Wales and the Duchy of Cornwall.
