Copy memorandum of contents of a letter read confidentially to Lord Lyons by Mr Seward (head of the Republican Party). He advises that the Prince of Wales should travel through the United States incognito as a 'student' and should decline any deputations or addresses. He states that the Prince 'should endeavour to give his visit the character of a national compliment to the Americans'.
