GUSTAVO BONAINI (B. 1810)

Portrait of a Young Woman

dated 1831

Engraving | 26.2 x 19.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852050

A print after a painting by Sebastiano del Piombo (c.1512) now in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. 1890, n. 1443). Lettered with title, production details and traditional attribution to Raphael. Stamped with a blind stamp at lower right (not in Lugt; possibly the publisher's blind stamp). The identity of the sitter, who has been formerly identified as Margherita Luciani (known as La Fornarina), is still a matter of dispute. Photographs of the painting at RCINs 852045, 852046.
