The painting, 'Contemplation', 1847 (RCIN 400576) was presented to Prince Albert by Queen Victoria for Christmas in 1847. Queen Victoria described the painting in her Journal as 'A little gem by our excellent Winterhalter of a female figure, quite lovely, as to face, drawing & colouring.'
