Photograph of a painting of a female figure reclining by Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-73). She is captured in profile, facing left, with her right leg crossed over her left. She supports her head with her left hand and holds sheets of paper with her right.

The painting, 'Contemplation', 1847 (RCIN 400576) was presented to Prince Albert by Queen Victoria for Christmas in 1847. Queen Victoria described the painting in her Journal as 'A little gem by our excellent Winterhalter of a female figure, quite lovely, as to face, drawing & colouring.'
