Photograph of a historical painting by Edward Henry Corbould of Act 3 scene 1 of Shakespeare's King John. The scene is set inside a tent with pennants and two large crosses by the entrance. The actor, Charles Kean is seen rising from his throne to address Queen Constance, played by Ellen Kean and Kate Terry as Prince Arthur who stand on the left. Alfred Wigan can be seen on the right.

The play was performed by Charles Kean's company at the Princess's Theatre in Oxford Street which Queen Victoria attended on four separate occasions. The play was also staged at Windsor Castle as a private performance. The original watercolour on which the photograph is based, was a gift to Queen Victoria from Prince Albert.
