'Princess Alice as Spring'

Photograph of a full length portrait of Princess Alice, later the Grand Duchess of Hesse and Rhine (1843-78). Princess Alice faces the camera on a slight angle. She looks to the left, away from the camera. Princess Alice is dressed as Spring and wears a costume consisting of a flower headband, light colour shirt, dark colour waist jacket, light colour sash, dark colour apron, light colour skirt and light colour shoes with dark ribbons and decoration. She holds a posy in her right hand and a basket of flowers in her left. She poses against a light colour sheet backdrop.

She was dressed for a performance of 'Tableaux of the Seasons , which took place in the Rubens Room at Windsor Castle on 10 February 1854, her parents' wedding anniversary.
