Photograph of a group of eight soldiers from the Grenadier Guards who were wounded during the Crimean War. Five are standing and three are seated. All are wearing military uniform including winter coats. Several have visible injuries to their arms and Private David Slade, standing to the far left, is using a walking stick. Part of Wellington Barracks can be seen behind.

This photograph is one of the first portraits of wounded Crimean War veterans commissioned by Queen Victoria, and pre-dates Roger Fenton's arrival in the Crimea.
