Photograph of a full length double portrait of a young woman, 'Flora', and a young man, 'Martinus'. 'Flora' is seated and faces the camera front on. She wears a beaded hair piece and braids, a bead necklace and furs. 'Martinus' stands on the right of the photograph with his right arm around Flora's shoulder. He wears furs, bead necklaces and beads around his ankles.
'Flora', aged 16, and 'Martinus', aged 14, from South Africa were exhibited as 'earthmen' in private rooms in London in 1853. They were brought to England in 1851.
The 1892 carbon copy print is adhered over the top of the original albumen print.
