Photograph of a full length double portrait of a young woman, 'Flora', and a young man 'Martinus', seated together, looking at the camera. 'Flora', on the left, wears a beaded hair piece, braids, furs and bead necklaces. On the right sits 'Martinus', wearing furs, beaded necklace and ankle bands and a feathered headdress. In the foreground, on the far left, is some drapery.
'Flora', aged 16, and 'Martinus', aged 14, from South Africa were exhibited as 'earthmen' in private rooms in London in 1853. They were brought to England in 1851.
The 1892 carbon copy print is adhered over the top of the original albumen print.
