Photograph of a full length group portrait of a young man 'Martinus' and a young woman, 'Flora', posing with the daughter of Mr George, the British man who brought the young adults to Britain. 'Martinus' stands on the left side of the photograph and faces right. He wears furs, beaded necklaces and ankle bands and a feathered headdress. In the centre sits a young British woman facing three-quarters to the right. She wears a dark colour shirt with lace collar and dark colour skirt. 'Flora' leans against the woman, on the right. She wears a beaded hair piece, braids, furs and bead necklaces.
'Flora', aged 16, and 'Martinus', aged 14, from South Africa were exhibited as 'earthmen' in private rooms in London in 1853. They were brought to England in 1851 by the merchant, Mr George.
The 1892 carbon copy print is adhered over the top of the original albumen print.
