Photograph of the Roman built bridge spanning the River Tagus. The bridge appears in the photograph spanning the river diagonally. A separate arch appears at the top of the bridge. In the background are rocky hills.

'El Puente de Alcántara' - 'The Bridge of the Bridge' was built by the Roman Emperor Trajan in Alcántara in AD 105, and comprises 6 arches. The two central arches span 110ft, and are 210ft high. The bridge is built of large granite stones.
