Photograph of a view of Calle de Alcalá, the longest street in Madrid. In the foreground, on the right, is the Fountain of the earth Goddess Cybele, depicted in her chariot drawn by lions. In the foreground, centre, stands a horse and carriage. The driver wears a top hat and faces away from the viewer. Other carriages with barrels stand next to the fountain of Cybelles. Further ghosted images of carriages populate the foreground. The street climbs a slope towards the background topped by the Royal Convent of Las Salesas Realesa on the right. The convent was founded by Queen Barbara of Portugal during the 18th century.
