1857Albumen print | 18.9 x 24.2 cm (image) | RCIN 2102829
Photograph of a large house in Coburg with a monument in front of the main entrance. Above the main entrance is a balcony supported by pillars. The house, once known as Bulgaren-Schlösschen or Augusten-Palais, dates from the eighteenth century. There is a horse-drawn cart and a man located on the far left side of the photograph.
This is one of a series of photographs that were commissioned by Queen Victoria to be presented to her husband Prince Albert on his birthday in August 1857. Bedford, accompanied by his wife, travelled to Coburg in June and early July to photograph the places associated with the Prince's childhood.
