Technological improvements enabled Prince Albert to collect photographs of places that were significant to him

FRANCIS BEDFORD (1815-94)

'Ansicht von Coburg von der Judenbrücke'; Coburg taken from the Ketchenbrücke

1857

Albumen print | 18.7 x 24.5 cm (image) | RCIN 2102817

Photograph taken from the Ketchenbrücke showing the faint outline of the town of Coburg with a bridge in the foreground. Three men stand on a bridge located in the middle ground, on the left. There is a two-storey building located in the middle ground, on the right.

The title contemporary to creation stated the view was taken from Judenbrücke.

This is one of a series of photographs that were commissioned by Queen Victoria to be presented to her husband Prince Albert on his birthday in August 1857. Bedford, accompanied by his wife, travelled to Coburg in June and early July to photograph the places associated with the Prince's childhood.
