A photograph of a drawing depicting two crossbowmen now in the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no. 443), where it is catalogued as by Raphael. This drawing is on the verso of preparatory studies for the figure of the Virgin (see RCIN 851197 for a photograph of the recto) in the so-called 'Norton Simon Madonna', a painting by Raphael now in the Norton Simon Museum of Art, Pasadena (inv. no.M.1972.2.P). Annotated on the verso.
In the catalogue of the Italian drawings in the Palais des Beaux-Arts (see Bibliographic References), this drawing is catalogued as directly inspired from Luca Signorelli, with the figure on the left depicted in the Martyrdom of St Sebastian by Signorelli for the church of St Domenico, Cittá di Castello. Joannides (see Bibliographic References) ascribed the drawing to an associate of Raphael.
