Photograph of a enamelled plaque by Jean II Pénicaud (active c.1531–49) created in the sixteen century and now in the collection of the Louvre, Paris (MR R 284a). The work depicts the Virgin seated in an armchair with an open book on her lap. The infant Christ stands in the foreground. Mother and child are flanked by two playing putti.
The piece was photographed in a wide frame with a vine-leaf and grape pattern interspersed by six enamelled medallions showing scenes from the Life of Christ.
