'Tête d'ange'
1857-58Albumen print? | RCIN 2160765
Photograph of a painting by Paul Delaroche, created in 1835 and now considered destoyed. This head-and-shoulder vignette in profile was based on a study of the artist’s wife, Louise Vernet (1814-45). Her father, Horace Vernet (1789-1863), was a notable painter and director of the French Academy in Rome. The work was completed the same year the couple got married in the chapel of St Cecilia in San Luigi dei Francesi, Rome.
