A photograph of a drawing by Raphael (c.1507) now in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. no.IV 209r). The drawing is a preparatory study for the so-called ‘Bridgewater Madonna’ (c.1507), a painting currently on loan to the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no.NGL 065.46) from the Duke of Sutherland Collection. This drawing features studies for the Colonna Madonna on the verso: see RCIN 851213 for a photograph of the verso.
Showing the seated Virgin looking at the Infant Christ who leans across on her lap while turning His head back to meet her gaze.
