Photograph of a half-length portrait of Sir William Forbes, 6th Baronet of Monymusk and Pitsligo (1739–1806). The male figure is sitting at his desk, writing with his right hand. He faces to the viewer and turns his head to the right an gazes ahead. He wears a unbuttoned coat over a shirt with lace-trimmed cuffs and collar.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was attributed to Johan Joseph Zoffany (1733-1810) and was in the collection of Mrs. George Forbes, Moniack Castle, Inverness-shire.
