Photograph of the cental medallion of the enamelled Crucifixion retable created in 1553 by Léonard Limosin (c.1506-1577) for Saint-Chapelle, Paris (see RCIN 2864504). As with the rest of the retable, this fragment has been in the collection of the Louvre since 1816 (MR 208 1). It depicts the Christ on the cross between the two thieves. On the right, St Longinus on horseback raises a short lance with his right hand. Three holy women surround the Virgin who has collapsed in the foreground, to the left. A large crowd can be seen in the background.
