Photograph of a painting by Paul Delaroche, created in 1840 and now in the Musée de l'armée, Paris (Inv. no. 11931). This full-length portrait of Napoleon I (1769-1821), depicts the French emperor at Fontainebleau in 31 March 1814, following Paris's capitulation to the invading Allied troops. Napoleon is seated sideways in a chair with his left hand on his left thigh and his right hand draped over the back of the chair. He faces slightly to the left and gazes ahead.
