Photograph of a painting by Paul Delaroche, created in 1846 and now in the collection of the Louvre, Paris (Inv. no. RF 1998-1). This three-quarter length portrait of James-Alexandre de Pourtalès (1776-1855) depicts the Swiss-born banker in his residence at n° 7, rue Tronchet, Paris. De Pourtalès is shown standing in front of a fireplace, the mantelshelf of which is cluttered with decorative objects. He faces slightly to the left and gazes upwards to the right, his hands clasped over his stomach.
