'Miss MacDonald'
1857-58Albumen print? | RCIN 2160752
Photograph of a painting by Paul Delaroche, created in 1826 and first shown at the Paris salon of 1827. The image is inspired by a historic event according to which Flora MacDonald (1722-1790) helped Bonnie Prince Charlie (1720-1788) escape from Scotland after the defeat of the Jacobites at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The two figures are depicted gazing each other and holding hands. Two additional men are seated on either side of the protagonists. The mouth of a cave can be seen in the background.
