Photograph of a painting by Paul Delaroche, created in 1853 and now in the collection of Les Musées de Liège. The work depicts the grieving Virgin kneeling at the foot of Christ's cross. She holds on to the cross and looks upwards to the Christ whose feet are just visible at the top of the work. She wears robes with wide sleeves and a hood.
