'Mary, Queen of Scots'; The Blairs Memorial Portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots 

Photograph of a full-length portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-87). The sitter is depicted standing, facing slightly to the left and gazing ahead. She poses holding a crucifix in her right hand and a prayer book in her left hand. She wears a dark floor-length dress with a large ruff around her neck and a long veil trimmed with lace. Her figure is surrounded with several inscriptions in Latin and the Royal Arms of Scotland.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of Blairs College, where it can still be found. It is believed that the work was created in the early seventeenth century by an unknown Flemish artist.
