Photograph of a work by Ary Scheffer, the prime version of which was created around 1845. The work depicts the Christ half-length and facing left, his gaze upwards to the left. He carries the cross on his right shoulder and wears the crown of thorns.
Ary Scheffer (and his studio) continued throughout his life to produce new works of old compositions on demand. His paintings were also widely reproduced as etchings.
