AFTER HIPPOLYTE PAUL DELAROCHE (1797-1856)
'La Vierge & l'enfant-Jésus'
1857-58Albumen print? | RCIN 2160831
Photograph of a drawing by Paul Delaroche, completed in 1856. The work depicts the Virgin in full-length, seated in a chair and facing to the viewer. Her hands support the infant Christ, who stands on her lap raising both hands in blessing. It has been suggested that this is the last work created by Delaroche. It was intended as preparatory for a larger oil painting that never commenced.
