AFTER ARY SCHEFFER (1795-1858)

'La Mère convalescente'

1860

Albumen print? | RCIN 2865014

Photograph of a work by Ary Scheffer, a 1824 version of which is now in the Musée des Beaux Arts in Grenoble. The full-length group portrait depicts a convalescent mother standing and affectionately placing her arms around her daughter and son's shoulders. All figures face to the right.

Scheffer (and his studio) continued throughout his life to produce new works of old compositions on demand. His paintings were also widely reproduced as etchings.
